Player Box

Change Skin for your Web Player, Moyea PlayerBox or JW Player? {0}

How to change a player skin? This is no newbie question. There is large number of web players on the website and you can locate one with Google easily. Most web players available on the website allow changing player skin but don’t tell you how. I would like to take the renowned JW Player and brand new Moyea PlayerBox for example to tell you how to change skins for web player.

Let’s start with Moyea PlayerBox. With Moyea PlayerBox, changing skins for the player are much more intuitive and no coding work at all. And you are free to customize skins for your web player according to your web player.

All you need to do is to launch Moyea PlayerBox and select each component of the web player and change skin for all status of an individual component.

You can create a player and then apply it by click “Publish” button on the main interface. Before you apply it to different web page for different FLV videos, you need to export the player skin as SWF file first. And then use Moyea Publishing Wizard to connect videos and player.

Implementing a skin on your site involves a simple addition to your existing JW Player HTML code. The JW Player now includes skinning through a separate SWF file that contains the player’s graphical elements and layout. Custom skins are easy to publish: by adding a single variable in the embed code, you can assign a new skin to the player.

var so = new SWFObject(‘’,’mpl’,’470′,’320′,’9′);
so.addVariable(‘file’, ‘/upload/flash.flv’);
so.addVariable(‘skin’, ‘/path/to/skinfile/skin.swf’);

SWFObject (alternate form)
var so = new SWFObject(‘’,’mpl’,’470′,’320′,’9′);
so.addVariable(‘file’, ‘/upload/flash.flv’);
so.addParam(‘flashvars’, ‘skin=/path/to/skinfile/skin.swf’);

According to the comparison above, we can tell the JW Player focuses on changing skins with html coding while Moyea PlayerBox is devoted to customizing skins in a WYSIWYG way. If you are quite familiar with HTML coding and flashvar, you can choose JW player, but remember you have to pay for the template by JW, meaning that you don’t have much choices. If you prefer to design or create skin all by yourself to match the theme and style of your website, Moyea PlayerBox is absolutely the best solution.

Moyea Player is a newly developed web FLV player creator program by a rising flash applications developer – Moyea Software. It realizes creating custom web FLV player with drag and drop edit box and no ActionScript coding is required. It can handle FLV of almost all kinds. It also supports RTMP, HTTP, live streaming and various playlist formats, With Sample XML playlist file, you can easily organize the playlist. Its skinning functionality is much more powerful than JW Player. It provides much more skin templates and it allows you create and change play skin all by yourself.

The JW FLV Player is the Internet’s most popular and flexible media player. It supports playback of any format the Adobe Flash Player can handle (FLV, MP4, MP3, AAC, JPG, PNG and GIF). Three ways to Add FLV Player to PowerPoint Presentation {0}

If you come to a class, a conference or summit, you may find PowerPoint as the most used media to present the course, ideas and so on. Text, images, video and animation could make the presentation colorful, interesting and attractive. With PowerPoint presentation, you can control the display of the slideshow, shifting among slides. If you want to present your ideas or products in person, PowerPoint is a more favorable media than video for the flexible control.

In terms of the text, you can choose different fonts and effects. For image, clip art and picture from a file are within your control. Videos in .wmv, .mpg, .avi are supported with direct insertion to PowerPoint. What will you do, if you have video in FLV format?

There are generally two options: converting FLV to video format supported by PowerPoint, or connecting video to PowerPoint. For the first option, it is the same as inserting video to PowerPoint. However, you need to convert FLV videos to WMV, MPG or AVI before using the output video file on PowerPoint slide. For the other option, I’d like to talk about three methods to show FLV video on PowerPoint. Before getting through the three methods, it is important to know that FLV video in certain file name could be played by a .swf file that is coded as an FLV player.

1. Use hyperlink to open a web page with FLV player file.

You have to upload the video together with a web page to display it, e.g. you upload video to Insert an image to the slide show, right click on the image, choose Hyperlink and add the page URL. When the image is clicked, a page will show up.

To use this method, you shall upload video online with a page to display FLV video with web FLV player, have network connection on the target computer to load video.

2. Use hyperlink to run local FLV player file.

The SWF file should be coded to a certain named FLV video. Just change your FLV file name to the related one. It is recommended to select an image or certain text for the hyperlink activation. Insert an image or choose a string of characters, choose Hyperlink from the right-click menu and browse the .swf file on your computer. Before browsing the file, remember to save the PPT file in the same folder as the .swf file to reduce the possibility of not reading the .swf file. Using this method, a player will show up when the hyperlink is clicked.

To use this method, you shall copy the .flv, .ppt and .swf to the target computer, and make sure the computer has been installed Adobe Flash Player.

3. Embed FLV player file to slide.

Using this method, we stay on PowerPoint without going to other window/browser. If your computer is installed with Adobe Flash Player (most machines are installed with the program to play Flash movies), you can also insert Flash object (Flash player) to PowerPoint to play videos or animation SWF file. Choose View > Toolbar, make sure Visual Basic is checked. On the floating Visual Basic window, choose the Control Toolbox icon and choose More Controls from the pop-up Control Toolbox. Then choose Shockwave Flash Object and draw a rectangle on the slide to display the player. Right click on the rectangle and choose Properties. Enter the SWF file path comparing to the PPT file with extension .swf. I would place the SWF file together with the PPT file for convenience, and only the SWF file name with extension is needed.

Just make sure that Adobe Flash Player is installed on the target computer, and copy the files for presentation.

Note: If the player includes full screen button, you can enable it on PPT. Go to the line for AllowFullScreen and change “false” to “true”.

To get a player to display FLV video on PowerPoint slideshow, Moyea PlayerBox is the choice. There is publishing guide for you to assign the player to play FLV video in certain name. HTML file could be outputted with the code on your web page. You can also add full screen button to player to show high quality video.
